CONTACT FOR ESA ASTRONAUT PAOLO NESPOLI, IZ0JPA WITH “ALIGHIERI” SCHOOL,
ARGENTINA

18 April, 2011 at 12:15 and 13:53 UTC, i.e. 09:15 and 10:53 local time Primary
School “Dante Alighieri” De Neuquen, Neuquen – Patagonia, Argentina established
double ARISS contact with Italian astronaut PAOLO NESPOLI, IZ0JPA on board the
International Space Station. The Primary School “Dante Alighieri” operated the
contact with callsign LU8YY.
"Dante_Alighieri"
School in Neuquén, Patagonia is teaches courses in Italian Language and Culture
in the Levels of Children, Teens and Adults, with different features, tailored
to the needs required by the students. "Dante Alighieri" School is
incorporated into the formal education system of Neuquén, in addition to the
Initial Level and Primary level, students also receive the benefits of music
education, physical education, and Italian language as first foreign language.
The "Dante Alighieri" school in Neuquén is officially recognized by
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy and the Dante Alighieri Society,
Italy.
ARISS
mentor Francesco De Paolis, IK0WGF proposed to radio contact coordinator in Neuquen a direct contact. Mr. Luis
Funes LU8YY, radio contact coordinator for this ARISS event decided in favour
of this set up. The questions were read by the students of the school, where an
audience of about 400 students, teachers, visitors and media assisted to the
ARISS event.
At 12:15 UTC, contact with
NA1SS was established by station LU8YY. Astronaut Paolo NESPOLI answered 17
questions per direct radio contact. At 13:53 UTC, contact with NA1SS was again
established by LU8YY. Paolo NESPOLI answered 11 more questions and exchanged
greetings.
